Riparian buffers, also known as vegetative buffers, help to prevent shoreline erosion, run-off(especially lawn fertilizers, etc),keep Canada geese away, and allow you to spend more time enjoying the lake (because you're not mowing your lawn). There are many types of plants that make good buffers. We, at Twin Birches, have dappled willow, which grows easily, has a beautiful pink-tinged varegated green leaf, and provides great erosion protection. For more tips on shoreline vegetation planting check The Federation of Vermont Lakes and Ponds website (LMPA is a member): <www.vermontlakes.org> Thanks for helping to keep our lake clean and clear.
